What is EFT?
The emotional freedom technique (EFT) is an alternative treatment for physical pain and emotional distress. It’s also referred to as tapping or psychological acupressure. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a meridian-based therapy that connects the mind, body, and emotions through the body’s energy system. EFT involves tapping with our fingertips on acupuncture/acupressure points on the face and body while concentrating on a problem we wish to resolve. EFT allows us to release and transform the way uncomfortable feelings like hurt, guilt, fear, or anger may be affecting our experience. EFT can also be used to help transform the thoughts and beliefs behind our emotional experiences. After just a few rounds of tapping, people often report feeling lighter and calmer.
How Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Works?
About 5,000 years ago, the Chinese discovered a complex system of energy circuits that run throughout the body. These energy circuits … or meridians as they are called … are the centerpiece of Eastern health practices and form the basis for modern-day acupuncture, acupressure, and a wide variety of other healing techniques.
This energy courses through the body and is invisible to the eye. By analogy, you do not see the energy flowing through a TV set either. You know it is there, however, by its effects. The sounds and pictures are ever-present evidence that the energy flow exists. In the same way, EFT gives you striking evidence that unique energy flows within your meridians because it provides the effects that let you know it is there. By simply Tapping near the endpoints of your energy meridians you can experience some profound changes in your emotional and physical health.
Emotional Freedom Technique is a very quick and simple method of reducing the intensity of traumatic memories. Everyone who lives on planet Earth had at least some trauma growing up. For the lucky ones, these traumatic events were rare and mild, like a nurse forgetting, for a few minutes, to give you a bottle when you were a baby.
For some people, the traumatic events of their childhood were horrific, like genocide, rape, or war. Most of us fall somewhere between these two extremes. Over the years we’ve built up a backlog of traumatic memories, reinforced by negative experiences as young adults. By the time we’re in full adulthood, we’ve formed behaviors and coping strategies based on these experiences. Our emotional growth has been shaped by them, and we may believe we’re destined to remain that way for the rest of our lives.
