Emotional Freedom Technique is a very quick and simple method of reducing the intensity of traumatic memories. Everyone who lives on planet Earth had at least some trauma growing up. For the lucky ones, these traumatic events were rare and mild, like a nurse forgetting, for a few minutes, to give you a bottle when you were a baby. For some people, the traumatic events of their childhood were horrific, like genocide, rape, or war. Most of us fall somewhere between these two extremes. Over the years we’ve built up a backlog of traumatic memories, reinforced by negative experiences as young adults. By the time we’re in full adulthood, we’ve formed behaviors and coping strategies based on these experiences. Our emotional growth has been shaped by them, and we may believe we’re destined to remain that way for the rest of our lives.
